Shakherezade AMIRKHANOVA
Editor in Chief, Harper's Bazaar Russia
Shakherezade Amirkhanova was named director of the Russian edition of Harper's Bazaar in June 2000 at the age of 21, making her the youngest editor in chief in the country. One of her objectives in the last two years has been the updating of the magazine to meet the changing tastes of the Russian elite and particularly that of Moscow. Ms Amirkhanova joined Hearst Independent Media at the age of 14 but went on to complete her studies at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut (USA). Then she earned a degree in promotion and communication from the London College of Fashion. Having lived in Europe and in the United States and having maintained ties with the Russian fashion industry, Ms Amirkhanova has been able to render a modern lifestyle comprehensible to Russian women and in the process create a unique opportunity to influence the local fashion industry. Bazaar has been published in Russia since 1996 by Hearst Independent Media, the largest holding company in the media sector whose portfolio also includes Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Men's Health, FHM, Yes!, Formula Zdorovya and the dailies The Moscow Times, St. Petersburg Times and Vedomosti.
