Gildo Zegna, managing director of the Ermenegildo Zegna group, is responsible for the clothing and retailing divisions and in charge of operations on the European, American and Japanese markets. In addition, he is vice president of Altagamma and a member of the board of directors of Sistema Moda Italia, Pitti Immagine and the Florence Center for Italian Fashions. The Zegna group is the world leader in luxury wear for men. Under the Zegna label alone, it produces two million meters of fabrics, 350,000 suits, more than one million items of sportswear and 1.5 million accessories. It employs more than 5,000 persons worldwide. The group ended 2001 with consolidated sales of 685.7 million euros (85% generated by clothing and accessories and 15% by textiles). Exports account for 80% of total production. In July 1999, the group acquired Lanerie Agnon. SpA, and in 2001 a majority interest in Master Loom, a company at Prato in Tuscany that specializes in innovative fabrics. In 2002, it secured control over the Guida company, owner of the Longhi brand of leather goods.
