Oskar METSAVAHT

Ceo & Designer, Osklen

In 1986, the brazilian doctor Oskar Metsavaht - specialized in Sports
Medicine at Pitié-Salpetriére Hospital in Paris - developed hand-crafted his
first jacket, tested on an Aconcagua peak expedition in the Andes,
researching about athlete's health conditioning in those weather conditions.
Oskar was the first Brazilian to reach the summit of Mont Blanc, that same
year, he saw the opportunity to show his sports medicine researches and the
brand new jackets to his friends. Two years later, Oskar created the Osklen
brand, starting with a snow apparel line. The brand lifestyle and
collections are also inspired by each trip or expedition, organized or
supported by the brand all over the globe. In 2001, the Andy Warhol
Foundation and Coca-Cola co. asked Oskar to reinterpret some of Warhol´s
drawings from an Osklen point of view, the "Brazilian Soul". Oskar with this
was given the freedom to interfere with Andy Warhol´s graphics, mixing them
with "carioca" (carioca=native from rio) icons. The limited collection was a
great international success and is part of the Andy Warhol Foundation in New
York. In June 2002, Oskar Metsavaht, together with biologists and
environmentalists, launched the e-brigade movement, an environmental
awareness project that educates and communicates using multimedia process.
The stylist was also invited by the boutique Cartier to be ambassador of
their sports model, the Roadester Chronographer watch. Still in 2003, Oskar
Metsavaht was nominated executive-president of the Association of
Entrepreneurs Friends of UNESCO and launched a line of T-shirts celebrating
de International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence (2001-2010).
Today, Osklen has 33 stores in Brazil, 2 in Portugal and one in Saint-Tropez
(France).
