Brunello CUCINELLI

Chairman and CEO, Brunello Cucinelli Spa

Brunello Cucinelli was born on September 3, 1953 in Castel Rigone (Perugia).
In 1972 he received his secondary school diploma, with specialized studies in drafting and land-surveying, in Perugia. He continued his studies at the university’s school of engineering for two years, from 1972 to 1974.

At the age of 25 he discovered the innovative potential of coloured cashmere. He began his business on his own, working out of a small 40 sq. m. workshop with virtually no economic resources.

In 1985 he purchased a fourteenth-century castle in ruins that would be the future headquarters of his small company in Solomeo. This tiny village, which had been uninhabited since the 1960’s , was near Perugia where his fiancé Federica lived. Restoration work began on the castle that very same year. In 1987 the company’s operations were moved to Solomeo.

His dream was to work in a magnificent place that would make man’s work more “human” and elevate his “dignity” while “preserving” the world’s heritage. A philosophy that has been studied by major Italian and foreign universities, consequently earning this Solomeo business the name of “humanistic company”. The Group, one of the world’s major cashmere producers, is counted among the top luxury goods companies worldwide.

He is president of the Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria, he sits on the board of the Cassa di Risparmio di Perugia bank foundation, is a member of the Pitti Uomo administrative board and is president of the “Arts Forum” Foundation of Solomeo.
