Biagiotti Cigna

Lavinia BIAGIOTTI CIGNA

Vice President, Laura Biagiotti Group; Councillor, CNMI

Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna was born in Rome, under the sign of Libra, on October 12, 1978. In 1996, after the premature death of her father Gianni Cigna, she joined the family business founded in 1965 by her grandmother Delia Biagiotti and brought to success by her mother Laura. Lavinia made her debut on the catwalk in 1997 at the end of a charity fashion show organized in Cairo by Madame Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of the Egyptian president. She has been a Board Member of the National Council of Italian Fashion since 2004 (the youngest member ever elected), and she is also a Board Member of the Marco Simone Golf Resort, a 27-hole golf course outside Rome that was built by the family. Lavinia has been Vice President of Biagiotti Group since 2005.
Lavinia is responsible for the development and advertising campaigns of all Laura Biagiotti accessories collections, the Laura Biagiotti Dolls line for girls, and the launch of new Laura Biagiotti fragrances. Besides fashion, Lavinia is also interested in art and sports, and she often finds new and unusual ways of combining them in her work. She is passionate about traveling, nature, friendship, theater, and dance. She is a member of the Fashion Designers National Soccer Team (she wears jersey n. 43), and she has been writing a monthly fashion column for a well-known Italian women’s magazine since 2005.
Since 1999, Lavinia has coordinated all the Laura Biagiotti fashion shows held in exclusive, through a special agreement, at the Piccolo Teatro Studio in Milan. She also organized the “Futurism between Art and Fashion” exhibit in Rome during the 1998-99 season, with 170 works of Futurist artist Giacomo Balla owned by the Biagiotti Cigna Foundation. Together with her mother Laura and with the support of Laura Biagiotti Parfums, she promoted two major restoration projects in her beloved Rome: the Cordoned Staircase of the Capitol designed by Michelangelo, which was restored in 1998, and the Fountains of Piazza Farnese, restored in 2007. She launched the Laura Biagiotti DOLLS collection in 2003, which was created to introduce Biagiotti fashion to young girls; the Biagiotti BODYWEAR lingerie and sleepwear line in 2004; the Laura Biagiotti Home Collection; the Laura Biagiotti BOMBONIERE wedding favors collection in 2008.

In 2004, Lavinia received the Ago d’Oro Award, and in 2005, she received the Premio Fregene, an award that her mother also received a decade earlier. In June 2006, she won the Best Young Designer category at the KORE – Fashion Oscar Awards held in Taormina. An important event for Biagiotti Group and children’s fashion took place on November 4, 2006, in Dubai: the Laura Biagiotti Dolls collection presented its first fashion show in the United Arab Emirates and was a huge success.
In 2007, Lavinia received the Young Fashion Entrepreneurs award, and in September 2008, she was given a Journalism and Fashion Special Award for the profound bond between Biagiotti fashion and the sports world. Fashion and Sports:
In October 2000, Lavinia Biagiotti and her mother Laura were the first to establish a bond between fashion and sports, with the aim of strengthening two great sectors that promote Italian excellence worldwide. For the striking finale of her show, Laura Biagiotti welcomed many of the champions of the Sydney 2000 Olympics and had them walk down the runway wrapped up in a cashmere Italian flag. The bond between Biagiotti fashion and great athletes has continued over the years with exceptional testimonials such as referee Pierluigi Collina, skier Giorgio Rocca, swimmer Massimiliano Rosolino, F1 driver Jarno Trulli, the “Lord of the Rings” Yuri Chechi, marathoner Stefano Baldini, GP motorcycle rider Marco Melandri, cyclist Mario Cipollini, fencing champion Valentina Vezzali, skier Daniela Ceccarelli, swimmer Federica Pellegrini, volleyball players Francesca Piccinini and Maurizia Cacciatori, ice skaters Maurizio Margaglio and Barbara Fusar Poli, bobsledder Armin Zoeggeler, skier Manfred Moelgg, long jumper Andrew Howe, skier Arianna Follis, judo champion Giulia Quintavalle, and fencer Margherita Granbassi. She was the first torchbearer of the fashion world to carry the torch for the Olympics of Turin 2006. In 2007, Lavinia was the Guest of Honor at the “Ritmo Social” Golf Trophy played at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic.
Fragrances:
The fragrance business, developed with licensee Procter & Gamble, gave Lavinia a chance to hone her marketing skills, especially regarding the launch of new perfumes. AQUA DI ROMA, which was launched in 2004 and followed in the wake of the success of ROMA and ROMA UOMO, won the FIFI AWARD was the best men’s fragrance of 2005. Laura Biagiotti DONNA, which was launched in January 2008, immediately became one of the top ten best sellers in Germany, a market of reference for the cosmetics sector.
