President and Managing Director of Brunello Cucinelli SpA, a company famous the world over for its production of cashmere apparel, which are exported throughout Europe and to the United States, Japan, Russia, and the Far East. Brunello Cucinelli SpA carries on operations in the world’s principal cities with 1,000 points of sale in multibrand stores and around 80 monobrand boutiques, over 750 employees, and a turnover of which three quarters come from international markets. In 2011 its sales totaled approximately 243 million euro.

His entrepreneurial story began in 1978, at the age of 25, when he opened a small 40m2 workshop. Throughout the 1980s the business grew and developed. Its garments started to be sold in Italy, Germany, and the United States. In 1985 he purchased the castle of the 14th-century hamlet of Solomeo, returning it to its ancient splendor after 25 years of exacting restoration work. He transferred his company headquarters into the castle and set up a second facility at the foot of the little town. In 2008 he opened the Arts Forum, which represents the realization of Brunello Cucinelli’s highest humanistic ideals, placing man at the center of the enterprise. He is in his fourth term as President of the Repertory Theatre of Umbria. He is a director of Pitti Immagine Firenze and the Altagamma Foundation. An academician of the “Pietro Vannucci” Academy of Fine Arts since 1998, he has been awarded the “Best of the Best” Prize in 2003, 2004, and 2009, the Pitti Immagine Uomo Prize in 2004, the 2009 “Imprenditore Olivettiano” Prize, the 2009 Export Prize, the 2009 Ernst & Young Prize, the 2009 Leonardo Qualità Italia Prize, the 2010 Andrea Pininfarina  Confindustria Awards for Excellence Prize, and the 2010 TextilWirtschaft Forum Prize. In May 2010, Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano named him “Cavaliere del Lavoro”, and in November of the same year he received a degree “honoris causa” in Philosophy and Ethics of Human Relations from the University of Perugia. In 2011 he was awarded the “Guido Carli” Prize for his distinction as an entrepreneur-philosopher respecting people and the environment. In the past year and a half, Brunello Cucinelli led the company through the Stock Exchange listing process, which took place on 27th April 2012 at the Milan Stock Exchange. The operation met with considerable success.
