Angela MISSONI

Creative Director Missoni

Tai and Rosita Missoni’s third-born, Angela began assisting her mother in the conception and creation of the women’s collections at the age of eighteen. This gave her the chance to reveal and express her innate feel for fashion, to acquire her own views on the subject of clothing design.

The hands-on experience also made for an invaluable way to learn all the steps in the process, from initial sketch to actual sale of the clothes. She did image development for some of the key licenses, too, such as the main line accessories and the childrenswear. Meantime she explored her own interests and abilities, in an intensely personal way.
Then Angela took an extended break from the business. In this period, from the early to mid eighties, she married Marco Maccapani, producer/director of fashion shows and other events. She also became the mother of three children: Margherita (1983), Francesco (1985), Teresa (1988).
When she returned to the company she began both designing a collection under her own name and working in tandem with Rosita, devoted serious attention to the main line. This set in motion a progressive restyling of the Missoni fashion vision for women.

With brother Luca, today Angela is co-owner of Missoni S.p.A. Beyond her role as creative director of the women’s collection and of the image from 1996, she assumes sole responsibility for the company’s style, including the men’s collection and licences.
Angela is also totally committed to infusing the family brand with new energy. Thus she proved a major force in renewing the store concept and in giving the ad campaigns – shot by world-class photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Juergen Teller, Steven Meisel, Mario Testino – a most contemporary slant. In just a few years Missoni fashion has taken on a fresh new identity.
As for the Missoni shows, they again mark important and popular occasions and make an authoritative, international statement in the communication of trends and ideas.

If Angela had not fallen for fashion, she might have gone into interior design. Which in fact is one of her favorite leisure activities. She very much enjoys (re)decorating the home, selecting the various elements, expressing her precise wishes, defining the arrangement of space and impact of lighting. In her own personal habitats she stratifies objects of all types, collects pieces of contemporary art, chooses furniture and other items of modern design. “Pleasant idleness isn’t for me,” she asserted in an interview. “I always need to be doing something, in particular with my hands, changing, moving, reorganizing, improving...” And if this is her attitude on the domestic front, Angela surely put it in practice on the professional one too.
